Today, 54 years ago, the first episode of the Original series was aired. Since then, a countless number of series and movies have been released with fans of all ages from all over the world.
Yes, I am a Trekkie. And I mention it to my students whenever I find the chance.
I have used Intro videos of most series for listening comprehension. I have played music from the movies to inspire students to write creatively, I have shown pictures of gadgets and had students draw their own machine and describe what it is for. I have shown them aliens and spaceships.
What to do on this special day?
Watch Star Trek! It can be an episode, a whole bunch of episodes or a a movie.
Dress up as your favourite character like you're going to a Science Fiction Con!
With your students you can have them draw and colour an alien and then describe them (practise colours and body parts)
With older students (teens or adults) you can talk about the society of the future, a world without racism and discrimination, have them write an assay about the future world. (Using future tenses and wishes)
