Martinstag

November 11 is the day of St. Martin. It is the beginning of the advent before Christmas and in many places in Germany people celebrate with various traditions.
One of them is the “lantern –parade”
Small children go around their neighborhoods holding handmade lanterns and singing “Martin-songs”.
In some places they go from house to house and get candy as well!

Goethe Institut Thessaloniki is organizing a “Lantern-celebration” on Saturday, November 10th to share the German traditions with all of us, weather permitting.
