#30 Goals Challenge: Goal 21: Ditch the plan

One of the things I love about teaching my son is that I almost never follow the lesson plan.
Of course we have a coursebook and a workbook and we do work on grammar and vocabulary and all this....  But we always end up doing something different, like play a game, search something on the internet or even watch a movie.

Let me mention an example of us having a lesson:

We were reading a text about the movie "The Wizard of Oz" the other day.
Of course my son got really curious and asked what happens in the end and all these questions that a kid might have when they see a picture of the film!
So we ended up watching the film instead of continuing our "coursebook" lesson!!!
It lasted longer of course but, it gave us a chance to talk about the characters, what he liked what he didn't like and we spend a great mother-son- quality time together.

In our next lesson we worked on the la la la song which has elements of the Wizard of OZ and talked about that.

I know that it is a bit difficult to do that in a class with your students, but always be prepared to do something which is not in the lesson plan. I mean, as teachers we should be flexible to our students needs.

Take care and keep teaching!

Precious time of learning with your son! Great example of us needing to be flexible.

Wow! Do you home-school your son? Or is it only English you teach him? I guess it must be really demanding to teach your own child. I've never had the courage :-)

I teach him English and German and yes sometimes it is difficult but he loves languages so it works just fine most of the times!!
