In the late 1950s, Joseph J. Goodwin of Los Gatos, California created Just Because Day. It began as a family holiday and grew into an annual celebration across the United States.
This is one of the weirdest national days in the world. Why? Because you can do whatever you want on this day, just because...
So, whether a parent or a teacher, you can do so many things to celebrate this day!
- Organise a party! You can bake pizzas at home or children can bring something from their home to class.
- Sing karaoke!
- Dress up in weird clothes! It doesn't have to be carnival season. Play with the different colors and clothes. (Activity to learn vocabulary and clothes: Have students bring clothes, shoes, glasses, hats etc. Put them in a bag. Have a list with the clothes. Divide them in pairs. One child describes the item of clothing and the other child tries to find it from the bag and wear it. Children have fun and learn vocabulary at the same time.)
- Organise a present exchange day. Play mystery Santa withought being Christmas!
- Have students write a compliment or something positive to their classmates!
Again, whatever you do, have fun!
