How are schools operating this year?

This at the start of your post: “This post is week 8 of 8 in the #8WeeksofSummer Blog Challenge for educators

Everybody is curious about this one.
Greece is a country that has handled this difficult situation very well, compared to other countries in the world.
Of course things have not been easy. With schools closed an most teachers still learning how to work online, valuabe time has been lost and as a result a lot of students lost the continuity of the school routine. Especially with smaller ages, online education did not work well, mostly because there was no proper control by their parents.
Asynchronous education was a choice in the beginning of the lockdow, but although teachers did a lot of work, students did not give the feedback they were supposed to since there was no way of controlling them.
Sychnronous education was not obligatory at high schools, so again a lot of teenagers did not cooperate. Whose fault it is?
Well everyone is to blame. We were not prepared for this.
So now that we know, though, things should change.
More control, more cooperation from all sides should do the trick.
I don't know what is going to happen the following school year. The situation with the pandemic is not over, but I am sure there is not going to be a complete lockdown due to the economy crisis.
So, schools are going to open e bit earlier in order to give teachers some time to finish last year's material. Are students going to come with masks on? Are tehre going to be smaller classes with less students? Is there going to be both online and face to face teaching?
Nobody knows.
Government is waiting to see how spread the pandemic will be and then decide the best solution.
Let's hope for the best!

Wow, there are so many questions. I hadn't really thought of the point you make--"The situation with the pandemic is not over, but I am sure there is not going to be a complete lockdown due to the economy crisis." But that is true. When I think back to last February when they closed schools, all we knew was we had one sick bus driver in Bahrain who had exposed some school-aged children in three schools. Now we have several hundred infected every day. It does seem strange to me that now we will go back when it's actually worse than last spring.

When do schools open in Greece? I would think if they were opening earlier, it would be very soon. We hope for favorable answers to all your many good questions! Be safe and healthy, Theodora.

Congratulations on all you #8WeeksofSummer posts!

Nothing is clear actually. The plan is that schools open on September 9th instead of the 14th. we will see how it goes and how we are going to work this year! Wishing you good luck!

Schools operate normally with masks. Lots of students demonstrate.
