Petros

It is very strange actually, students have started calling me and it is still August. In the past years I had to call them and lessons would begin end of September!
It's the first time this year that I don't have to wait for a Frotesterio (language school) schedule. I am on my own here!! Hurray!
The money will not be that much and I won't have any insurance, but still, it is a relief that I won't have to answer to anyone but myself!!

A special thanks to Craig who lend me some of his pictures. I came a bit late and missed most of the action...

Happening now

And while we were having a great time on the beach, people were being burned to death...
63 victims, not to count the burnt forest, properties and livestock...

Greece is burning!

Greece is on fire. Greece is mourning the 51 people who lost their lives...

Have a nice weekend!

Wiki auf Deutsch!!

I was browsing around yesterday, looking for new material for my lessons and I came across this page. It is one of the few Wiki spaces in German language and has to do with teaching and methodology.
I found it really interesting, especially for people who study to be teachers , for ASEP candidates
or for teachers who'd like to refresh their knowledge!

summer is coming to an end...

And I am still tired!!

This will be the last weekend on the beach. After that, lesson planning, visiting book exhibitions, calling up students (I've started doing that actually) and getting down to work.

I have a lot of ideas for this school year and I am sure I am going to try many things, because I will only be working with private students, I will have the equipment (pc, mobile phones, camera) and I will not have so much control. I hate exam oriented lessons, and although in Greece everything is passing the exam, I think I can help my students doing other things as well.

I want to use video a lot this year, and continue last year's projects (movie and book reviews, descriptions, songs, interviews etc)

At this point I'd like to thank Craig for all his wonderful ideas - and for letting me use them!

I hope I can be as productive and I wish everybody a great new school year

I am back at last!

I am so glad I am home again! I have told you this before - I am the ultimate city kid!
Can you blame me?
See for yourself what I had to go through every day to get some food!!!

Radio free albemuth

Probably the strangest book I have ever read! For some crazy reason though I kept reading and reading... I will not write anything about the plot. You have to find out on your own! Great sci fi - lots and lots of imagination.
Philip K Dick is the author of many "strange" books, including "Blade Runner"

Dancing in the rain

Monday in Likythos

In the afternoon we got some sun back, but still too cold to go to the beach.

We climbed up Toroni's castle, it's called Likythos, and it used to be a great fortress over here.
More info

I hadn't gone up here since I was a child! Great experience though!

Sunday in Marmaras

Athough cloudy, we decided to drive to Marmaras, it's about 2o minutes from where we stay.
It turned out to be a good idea. We found a really nice cafe, as you can see.

Life goes on as usual in the village, or should I say little town.

Kids, not being able to go for a swim that day, playing with the pebbles!

The Island

I started reading it, although I don't usually read this kind of books. To my surprise, I couldn't put it down! I finished it in a day! I got so absorbed, nothing else mattered! I just wanted to know what came next!

The story of a family, the story of an island. The story of a disease.

A wonderful story. Lively descriptions, great research. A fantastic job by Victoria Hislop. This is her first book, by the way.
PS. Reading this book, made me think. There are so many people suffering out there. Leprosy is a very serious disease, which CAN be fought, though. We can do something to help.

Cloudy today

Devil in a blue dress

It is 1948 in LA. The hero is a black war veteran. This is the first book of the Easy Rawlings series. Easy tries to find a white girl. The book takes you back to this years. The language is sometimes hard to understand and there are too many killings... But all in all, the plot is interesting and it somehow holds you until the end!
